How the grading works
Every reading in the register carries a grade. The grade says what the reading rests on: a name real Egyptians bore, a word in the dictionary, a near match, or nothing but the letters. It says nothing about how important the name is. The weakest grades are the most candid ones.
Settled
Settled 166 readings
Grant’s own readings from the Book of Mormon deck, each with its slide: the attested namesake, the citation, the bearer count, the story. They stand unless something is plainly wrong. In the deck itself three in four names (249 of 334) are attested as wholes: 210 as Egyptian personal names, 39 as a god, a people, a place or a title; 85 rest on attested parts only, and their slides say so.

Weak 332 readings
A near match, one consonant off, or a stretched sense. The reading is in the book so the chapters translate consistently, and it waits for review. The note says what the alternatives are.
- Gihon qḥn — cauldron (?). AED qḥn 'cauldron (?)' TLA 162140; phonetic spelling
- Hiddekel Ḥdq — to cut off. AED ḥdq 'to cut off' TLA 112230; phonetic spelling
- Zillah Sꜣ.t-Jꜥḥ — daughter of Iah. PNM sꜣ.t-jꜥḥ 'daughter of Iah' Ranke I,285.16
Phonetic 195 readings
No reading found. The consonants are spelled sign by sign with uniliteral signs, r for l, and the entry says so in so many words. This is what the Enoch book did for Methuselah and Lamech.
- Methuselah Mtwšrḥ — Methuselah (spelled phonetically). enoch_lexicon.py (the Enoch book's spelling)
- Togarmah Tgrmh — Togarmah (spelled phonetically). no match: ot_name_candidates.py gives 0 hits for TGRMH
- Arphaxad Jrpkšd — Arphaxad (spelled phonetically). no match: ot_name_candidates.py gives only Muchiki ḥr-bik and rbk
How to read them
A match alone proves little: ordinary Hebrew names found a sound-match (71%) at least as often as Book of Mormon names did (68%). So the meaning and the story on each entry must carry it, and every number in a basis comes from a tool’s output or a source actually read. Where support could not be found the reading says so and is graded weak. If you think a grade is wrong, the note on the entry shows the reasoning so you can judge it; disagreement is welcome.
